Badges
For a few years in the late 2000s the Encyclopedia of Pointless ran on MediaWiki, the venerable software powering Wikipedia. It was both more complicated than it needed to be and too difficult to modify to allow for things like Choose Your Own Error Adventure. The experience was so bad it caused Mr. Encyclopedia to give up on wikis entirely, which ended up being a terrible mistake.
One of the good ideas implemented during that time was adding badges to various pages. This had the dual effect of making them more visually interesting and also encouraging people to write pages and award each other meaningless tokens of respect. pmWiki has functionality that allows badges to be added to a page simply by listing them here. It does work. We've tested it.
