Artifice

Artifice is the creative energy utilized by The Aspects to create the universe. Humanity has the capacity to harness Artifice, which is why The Aspects have deigned to guide and protect them.

Studies have shown that every human, regardless of their ability to harness it, produces a measurable but small amount of Artifice. This Artifice rises and eventually collects into streams of energy in the sky or underground called leylines. Leylines seem to be influenced by the terrain but it is unclear if this is due to the terrain itself or the humans living in it. Channeling Artifice requires one to pull from the nearest leyline, which is often physically and mentally demanding. For this reason Artifice users tend to live as close to a leyline as possible, especially places where a leyline passes between the sky and the earth.

An alternative to channeling directly from a leyline is using Yliaster, which is Artifice that has been crystallized in an Athanor. Yliaster is one of the main exports of Estavelle and the secret of its production is closely guarded by the Alchemist Guild.
