Slippage

Slippage is a Artiphysical phenomenon that occurs in a high ambient Artifice field, such as within a Leyline?. Slippage can take a variety of forms but usually involves the alteration of physical reality.

Since Slippage is almost always noted in the presence of human observers it's theorized to be the result of Artifice interacting with subconscious thoughts, essentially a sort of automatic channeling. Studies of reported instances of Slippage do not produce any correlation between the personalities or desires of the observer and the resulting phenomenon, making it impossible to predict what result Slippage may cause.

Artifice users have found that steadily channeling Artifice in a known harmless spell? seems to reduce the likelihood of Slippage, but there are many reported instances of Slippage occurring despite this precaution. Physical wards enchanted? against Slippage have also been tried, so some success, but on one occasion a ward failed in a high-Artifice environment causing a catastrophic effect likened to a rubber band snapping. Alchemist Leathers? are known to protect against Artiphysical effects on the wearer but do not actually prevent Slippage itself.
