Maintain Control

You might assume maintaining control of a vehicle hurtling at 60 miles per hour across a thin film of yummy fish is no small task. It is correct to assume thus. In situations like this one often finds themselves caught in an oxymoronic loop. To be more specific, there is an inverse correlation between trying to control a situation and that situation resolving favorably.

This is known as the "Jesus take the wheel effect." There is no evidence that a 2000 year old Jewish carpenter actually involves himself in the situation in any way, but it's often true that taking a "let's just wait and see how this turns out" approach to certain life or death situations can lead to positive outcomes more often than mere common sense would dictate.

Getting back to the situation at hand, you did not do this. You firmly kept your hands on the wheel, and now you've paid the price. In this case, the price is firmly wrapping your automobile and yourself around a telephone pole.

You are not dead but you are close to it. If you have any bright ideas, now would be a great time to deploy them.
